Moses, Isaac S : HANUKKAH FESTIVAL: A SONG SERVICE FOR THE FEAST OF LIGHTS

Chicago: Amer. Heb. Pub. House, 1893

1st edition. Original paper wrappers. 8vo. 14 pages, 19 cm. In English. Isaac Moses (1847–1926) was a well-known U.S. Reform Rabbi who was active in American Judaism from 1870 until his death. He served in rabbinic positions in Chicago, Milwaukee, and at the Central Synagogue in NYC until he retired in 1919. "In his early days in the United States, Moses was considered a radical Reformer, but later he took a more moderate position. In 1884 he introduced his own prayer book (Tefillat Yisrael). Moses was a founding member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and a member of the Reform committee charged with compiling an official prayer book. The appearance of the Union Prayer Book in 1894 has been credited to his personal initiative in preparing and circulating a manuscript when the committee's work seemed to be leading nowhere (EJ, 2007). SUBJECTS: Hannukah. OCLC lists 2 copies worldwide (JTS and HUC). Pages very lightly soiled with former owner’s name written in pen on front wrapper. About Very Good Condition. Rare. (AMR-56-5-F)
