Original typescript in black ink on white paper. Stapled in upper-left corner. No date, circa 1920s-1950s. 8 1/2" x 11." Two pages, complete. Pages are very clean and intact except for slight wrinkling and offsetting at the bottom of Page 1. A Near Fine copy. Contains two articles. Subtitle of "Battle of Spokane Plains: Grand Spectacle of Indian Splendor": "Redskin Hosts Went Into Fray With Plumes Flying and 'Gorgeous Finery'; Horses Were Painted -- But Surprised Braves Up Against Minie Balls First Time, and Panic Followed." The first article is about the Battle of Four Lakes which was part of the 1858 Coeur d'Alene War. The Coeur d'Alene War was also part of the Yakima War. The Coeur d'Alene War was fought between the United States government and Indigenous tribes led by Chief Kamiakin, including the Yakama, Palus, Spokan, and Schitsu'umsh (Coeur d'Alene). The author relays how Indigenous warriors took heavy casualties from the use of Minie balls (bullets) by Colonel George Wright. Subtitle of "Indian Scare at Five Mile": "Prairie Folks Posted Guards, but Redskins Were as Frightened as Whites." The other article consists of four brief paragraphs and is about an incident in which both Indigenous Peoples and white settlers misunderstood one another and anticipated the other was going to attack when no such attack happened.
