Original Typescript - "Huttons" (and) Untitled

Original typescript with staple binding. Bound in a white paper folio. Part of another typescript is loose and paper clipped to the back of the folio. "Huttons" typescript includes holograph corrections in blue pen on almost every page. Inscription in top margin of first page of "Huttons" typescript reads, "Published in Spring issue of Montana, Magazine of Western History, 1967." No date, circa 1967. 9" x 14." "Huttons" typescript is fourteen pages, complete. Untitled typescript is ten pages (Pages 5-13), incomplete. The last page of the latter typescript is a copy of Page 13. Untitled typescript is on another topic, George II, George III, and George IV's medals. Pages are very clean and intact except for slight wrinkling. A Near Fine copy. A rough-draft article about May Arkwright Hutton (1860-1915), the acclaimed suffragist and civil rights leader who gained national recognition for her work in politics. The article is organized chronologically and discusses May's childhood, her marriage to Levi Hutton, and her meteoric rise in politics. She made name for herself as an unconventional Progressive who advocated for women's suffrage in Spokane, Washington as well as other civil rights. For example, May looked out for orphans and the economically disadvantaged and called for the establishment of a juvenile court in Spokane and the fair treatment of miners. Different events in May's life are briefly discussed, such as seeing William McKinley in her childhood, her tiffs with Teddy Roosevelt, her reception among the general public, her responses to critics, and examples of her political work..
