Small 8vo. viii, 306 pages plus [1]p disclaimer from the author that, while her book was still being published, she read in Boswell's Tour of the Hebrides that she could not get through Mrs. Montagu's Essay on Shakespeare. She wanted to point out that she has always commended it and she would hate others to think she did not attest to its greatness. Bound in full 18th century brown calf, split at joints and missing a large part of leather from the spine. Upper joint very tender. Some browning to prelims otherwise pages are very clean and fresh. A good copy for rebinding. This contemporary account by an Anglo-Welsh woman is seen as a very important source of information on Samuel Johnson and 18th Century life.
