Polk, Secretary of War W. L. Marcy, and W. Medill. The subject matter is about the Indigenous tribes living in Oregon, California, New Mexico, and other territories the United States had recently acquired from Mexico following the Mexican-American War. The topic is a controversial one, as a central platform of the Polk Administration was to acquire new land for the U.S. that was actually owned by Indigenous people. The correspondence discusses the stationing of American troops in the states and territories as well as how many members are estimated to be in each Indigenous tribe. The statistical figures counting the number of people from the different tribes constitute Pages 6-12.. Book. Book Condition: Near Fine. Binding: Soft cover
