UK,slim 8vo HB,no dw/dj - as issued?,1st edn thus.[Originally published 1911, undated and the true 1st edn,which then very quickly sold out.Reissued again in 1913 and then a 2nd editon in 1917.Issues one and two of the 1st edition each contain 12 colour plates facing b/w 'paint-yourself' outlines,but the 1917 issue has eight pictures/plates only.A later edn,this one,as the 3rd title of a series of 4 painting books,in 1954 - again undated.] VG++.No owner inscrptn,no dw/dj - as issued? Sharp-cornered and generally clean,pink background paper-covered bds with colour pictorial lozenge-shaped vignetted front bd and b/w outline lozenge-shaped vignetted rear bd,and black +pink lettering; with negligible shelf- wear to edges and corners.Miniscule rubbing to head+foot of spine/backstrip, and to corners too and bright,clean,b/w outline line illustrated eps.Boards minimally grubbed and marked,with sunned spine/backstrip and partial sunning/fading to upper bd's top edge - approx 1/2" wide horizontally,due to proximity of a smaller book stored against it sometime during it's lifetime.Top+fore-edges minimally aged and clean; contents bright,tight and near pristine - no spotting/foxing,no dog- ear creases to any pages' corners and no b/w outline paintings attempted,though the staples are rusted.Pp9-pp20 are lightly affected with a partial,vertical crease towards spine/backstrips' edge - probably a production fault (see rja406812 - similar fault to similar location/ signatures.).UK,slim 8vo HB,no dw/dj - as issued(?),1st edn,32pp [unpaginated] comprising colour pictorial title page with repeated design in b/w outline to fep,18 colour illustrations (endpapers include title page+last colour illus),with repeated design in b/w outline for colouring in opposite,and text/storyline beneath each of the pictures.Strangely enough,right in the middle of the book,the b/w outline of Mr McGregor has been duplicated,but without a corresponding extra duplicate colour plate/illus,and opposite,a b/w outline of Mrs Rabbit is also without a reciprocal colouring plate/illus.NONE of the outline illustrations have been attempted nor coloured in.Very,very uncommon in this state. A highly collected and prolific children's book author/illustrator,and an unusual item/ephemera in POTTER's bold style and will be an important and welcome addition to the POTTER canon. A very bright and clean example,a perennial favourite and highly collectable item,particularly in as good a grade as this. Other titles in this series include - in order of pubication - 'Jemima Puddle-Duck's Painting Book' (see rja406812, 'Jeremy Fisher's Painting Book',and 'Tom Kitten's Painting Book.' - all undated and all published in the same year,1954.
