Collection of two original billheads printed in black ink on light beige paper. Each includes handwriting in black ink and pencil. Datelined January 22 and February 9, 1869 in Sacramento, California. 8" x 4 3/4." Billheads are clean and intact overall but have staining (possibly glue residue) painted as one line on front, light age toning, and a vertical line in blue crayon or colored pencil at center. Good copies. Two original billheads from R. C. Terry & Company of Sacramento, California to the Central Pacific Railroad (identified as "C P RRd Co."). The Central Pacific Railroad (CPRR) purchased one line item per billhead. One of the line items has "Lamps" in the description. The printed header on each reads, "Bought of R. C. Terry & Co., Importers and Dealers in Stoves, House Furnishing Goods, Coal Oil, Lamps and Lanterns of all kinds, Manufacturers of Every Description of Tin, Copper and Sheet Iron Ware, Southeast Corner of J and Fifth Streets." Additional printed text reads, "We Set to Order the Very Best French Ranges, Ever Made. All Sizes, from 4 to 20 Feet, and Fully Guaranteed. Portable Ranges, Various Patterns.; Finest Silver-Plated Ware. Britannia, Planished, Japanned, and Enameled Ware, Etc., Etc., Etc." The Central Pacific Railroad was a railroad company incorporated in 1861. It was chartered by United States Congress to complete the western part of the Transcontinental Railroad extending eastward from Sacramento. CPRR continued operating until 1885 when it was acquired by the Southern Pacific Railroad as a leased line. In 1959, Southern Pacific stopped the lease, and CPRR was formally absorbed by Southern Pacific.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Collectible-Good. Binding: No Binding
