8vo; original blue cloth, lettered in gilt on both boards and on spine; endpaper map; pp. 108 + 108; full-colour frontis. crest for both English and Afrikaans texts; monochrome illustrations throughout. Cloth rather fishmothed; foxing to endpapers, outer leaves and page edges; compliments slip from the Divisional Council loosely inserted. Fair to good condition. The book has English text from one end, and Afrikaans text from the other. A centenary history of the Port Elizabeth Divisional Council, the function of which is comparable to that of County Council governments in the United Kingdom. By 1949, the jurisdiction of the Council extended from the Hankey area in the west, to the Sundays River in the east.
