Two volumes, complete. Green-gray paper-covered boards backed with red leather. Gilt lettering on spine. "First American, from the Third London, Edition" printed on both title pages. 3 1/2" x 6." Vol. I: 252 pages, complete. Vol. II: 250 pages, complete. Two additional pages advertising other books published by Samuel T. Armstrong in back of Vol. II. Pages are intact overall but have light age toning throughout, some faint dampstaining, moderate foxing, and a few closed tears (one tear on Pages 72 and 73 in Vol. II measures 3"). Text is still very readable. Covers are intact overall but head of Vol. II is split, head and tail of spine of Vol. II are chipped, corners are worn on both volumes, and both volumes have staining and darkening on front and back boards. Good copies. An instructive coming-of-age novel, in two volumes, about a Mr. Lefevre who is 19 years old at the beginning of the story. In the Preface, the author writes that this narrative was based on true events. Central to this novel is the instruction of Christian principles and living, especially toward younger people, as told through Lefevre's life and choices. Authored by Andrew Reed (1787-1862), an English Congregational minister, hymnwriter, and social reformer. Reed founded many charitable institutions that aimed to help orphans and people with mental disabilities.. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover
