A quite tight, attractive 5th edition of this 1886 classic, featuring contributions from U.S. Grant, Elihu Washburne, George Boutwell, Benjamin Butler, Frederick Douglass, Henry Ward Beecher, Cassius Clay, Robert Ingersoll, Charles A. Dana, Petroleum V. Nasby, Walt Whitman and many others. Internally quite bright and near fine, with engravings superb.
