RICKWORD, John Edgell (1898-1982) : An Extensive Autograph letter On an Air Letter Form, Signed and Dated Nov. 30 88

26 lines. Rickword discusses his sluggishness in responding to correspondence, comparing it "to a sloth that can only be adequately represented by a medieval painter of the seven deadly sins". He sardonically states that his image as a forgotten figure has been shattered by a gift of one thousand pounds from the Arts Council...."Icannot say that it has inspired any genuine emotion, mostly an access of Lucretian melanchily". John Edgell Rickword, MC (22 October 1898 – 15 March 1982) was an English poet, critic, journalist and literary editor. He became one of the leading communist intellectuals active in the 1930s.
