Elizabeth Selden White Rogers (1868-1950) was active in the women suffrage movement in the early 1900s and was the wife of the New York surgeon, John Rogers (1865-1939). She was also the great niece of Roxana Selden. Roxana Selden Jack Fraser (1791-1876) and Elizabeth Selden Spencer Eaton (1796-1868) were sisters, members of a large and prominent Connecticut family. In possession of a large collection of family letters, Elizabeth Selden Rogers, in 1942, arranged, edited, copied, and commented on the letters primarily written between the two sisters. Part of the purpose of this effort was to preserve Selden family genealogy and part was to show the strength of Roxana and Elizabeth Selden as two early American women. A sidelight in the collection is that Elizabeth Selden Eaton was the wife of General Amos B. Eaton (1806-1877), a career soldier in the U.S. Army. General Eaton served in the Mexican-American War, was stationed in California during the Gold Rush, and was Commissary General of the U.S. Army during the Civil War. There are many copied letters between General and Mrs. Eaton, mostly showing their domestic life together as opposed to his professional career. There is no evidence that this manuscript was ever published. Twenty-six letters between Elizabeth Eaton and Amos Eaton are at the University of Michigan. Amos Eaton papers also at the University of Miami, Yale, Huntington, and the California State Library.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
