Original black-and-white portrait photograph of Ida Rubinstein mounted on beige board. Signed by Ida Rubinstein in black ink at bottom of board under the photo: "To Mother dear/Mrs. Coleman ['Mother dear" written on top of "Mrs. Coleman'], with love and best wishes, Ida (The naughty little daughter)." Photo has sepia tones and has small white lettering printed to the right that reads, "Otto Sarony Co., 3." A ghost image (possibly intentional or perhaps a result of offsetting) of a seated woman is on the verso of the board; this woman may also be Rubinstein. No date, circa 1920s. Board: 8 1/4" x 11." Photo: 5" x 7 1/4." Photo is very clean and intact except for slight age toning and some small spots and stains on the front. Board is very clean and intact except for age toning, slight wear to extremities, and a few small spots on front and back. A Very Good copy. This is portrait photo of and signed by Ida Rubinstein. Rubinstein is shown wearing a dress and hat as she is seated on a bench and looking at viewers with her head propped up on one of her arms resting on the bench. Ida Rubinstein (1883-1960) was a Russian-American dancer, actress, and patron of the arts. The photo was taken by the Otto Sarony Company. Otto Sarony (1850-1903) was an American photographer of international acclaim. He is perhaps best-known for his portraits of celebrities from the stage and screen. His father was Napoleon Sarony (1821-1896) who was also a photographer. Napoleon is well-known for his late-nineteenth-century theater portraits.. Photographic Image.
