No date, circa 1900. 6 1/4" x 8 1/2." Seventy-five pages, complete. One black and white frontispiece showing a man with a white beard, complete. Pages are very clean and intact. Covers are clean and intact overall. Binding is a bit loose on the covers. Front pastedown is loose. An origin myth and fable created by John Ruskin (1819-1900) for Euphemia "Effie" Gray (1828-1897), who was twelve years old at the time. This book was published by the Roycrofters. Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) opened the Roycroft Press in 1893 and founded the Roycroft Shops and the Roycroft artist community in 1895. The inspiration for Roycroft was William Morris (1834-1896), an English textile designer, writer, and social activist who is associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement.. Book.
