Saint-Loup ; Kok, Myron (trans) : Vrywillig vir Europa

Boek Mosaiek, Johannesburg, 1966

384 pages (complete). In Afrikaans throughout. Saint-Loup was the pseudonym of Marc Augier, a French far right activist and politician who was disquieted by the lack of concern about capitalistism amongst the SS. There is a school presentation plate on the frontispage. By any account this would be considered a startling book to present to a 15 year old girl. Saint-Loup/ Augier was a high profile collaborator with the Nazis during their occupation of France. He worked with the French Waffen SS. This book, published as "Les Volontaires" is about the 'Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism' - a collaborationist militia regimentised by the Nazis. The historical eccentricity of this book is therefore undisputed. Saint-Loup wrote a special foreword for this edition - this was translated into Afrikaans in which he hopes that his 'blood-brothers in South Africa' will be emboldened by its message. The book has a clear plastic protective cover. This is scruffy and worn. The cover beneath is fine and intact and defiant. Inside, the front and end pages have adhesive tape residue. The papertrims have handling marks. There is evidence of use throughout. The pages are intent, relaxed, very confident, clear, fluent. fk. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Fair
