Depot de la Marine, Paris, 1778
Black & White, Excellent, Size : 580x865 (mm), 22.875x34 (Inches)
The two maps were done by Antoine Sartine. The map of Delaware is based on Joshua Fisher’s map of the same area. Included in the left map are extensive details regarding shipping lanes and depth soundings. The chart on the right depicts New York City and the surrounding area. Again depth soundings are noted as well as shoals, channels and rocks. Another interesting point is that the lighthouse at Sandy Hook has been depicted as well as a few towns on the coast of New Jersey. The text that appears on the maps is a translations of General Howe’s description regarding his engagement between himself and Washington in 1778 at Sandy Hook
The pair is in excellent condition. These maps are not usually found together but here they are together in their original format., Sellers & Van Ee #1365 &1229
