The collection as a whole (photos with envelope) is Fine. A collection of sixteen beautiful snapshot photos taken by Schlechten Studio of West Yellowstone, Montana. Each photo has a "Schlechten Studio" stamp on back and printed text on the front of the envelope which also credits the photography studio. This iteration of Schlechten Studio was run by Alfred "Chris" Schlechten (1911-1979), an American photographer and member of the Schlechten family. The Schlechtens were noted for their photos of Yellowstone National Park and Gallatin County, Montana. The Schlechtens entered the photography business in 1900 when brothers Albert Schlechten (1876-1961) and Alfred Schlechten (1877-1970), the latter of whom was also Chris's father, bought out the photography studio of Grant and Tippet in Bozeman, Montana. Albert stayed in the photography business until 1946, and Alfred, similarly, continued working in the industry until the 1940s. Chris continued the family tradition, and the West Yellowstone "Schlechten Studio" was the first photography studio he operated. Chris also specialized in photographing Yellowstone subjects like his father and uncle and ran the family business until his passing in 1979. With the exception of one (see below), each photo in this snapshot collection has a stamped caption on back which references the subject. The captions read, "Hold up Bear" [bear peeking into car window], "Grotto Geyser," "Morning Glory Pool," "Gibbon Falls," "Norris Geyser Basin," "Tower Falls," "Tower Falls" [slightly different exposure], "Elk," "Jupiter Terrace," "Teton Range," untitled [view of one of the park's waterfalls with viewing platforms visible to the side], "Great Falls of the Yellowstone," "Liberty Cap," "Moose," "Old Faithful," "Yellowstone Canyon from Artist Point," and "Yellowstone Lake.". Photographic Image. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine. Binding: No Binding
