Image dimensions 150 x 110mm. In fine state. Cordelia Selwood (1918-2002) studied briefly at Willesden School of Art ( her father didn’t approve of education for women), and subsequently trained as a milliner as well as a theatre and costume designer. Her designs include those for the Windmill Theatre, several of which are in the V&A. In the early days of WW2 Cordelia worked briefly as a Fleet Street illustrator and shop window designer, before joining the Red Cross and serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Having always drawn and painted, she continued to do so during and after the War. Her first solo exhibition in 1964, at the Mount Gallery, Hampstead, included English landscapes. An exhibition at the Alwin Gallery, Piccadilly, a decade later, featured mountain landscapes based on her travels around the world. Cordelia exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Portal Gallery, the Guildhall, the New English Art Club, the Royal Academy and in several local authority galleries. Her works are in many public and private collections in the UK, US, South Africa and Europe.
