State Controller's pay warrant with deficiency claim note form on the back with official "x" punched in the center; both documents printed on beige paper. Warrant dated 1883; deficiency claim dated 1882. Warrant measures 5 1/4" x 10 1/4"; deficiency claim measures 8" x 3 3/4." Part of text printed in black ink. Portions of text handwritten in black ink. Some parts (such as dates) are stamped in pink, blue, or purple ink. A black and white decorative border and a couple images of building and a man standing with a shovel and pickaxe are on the warrant. Paper, handwriting, and printed text and images are all very clean and intact. Warrant includes the following: "No. 691. Carson, Nevada, Feb 1 1883, The Treasurer of State will pay out of the General Fund, To the order of Dan O'Connor [$7.82]. Appropriation for Deficiencies 1881-2. Kind of Service [...] Nov [...] 1882. Liability accrued Feb 1 1883. [Signed] J. F. Hallock, State Controller." Deficiency claim on the back says the following: "No. 189, Office of the State Controller, Carson, Nevada, Dec 4, 1882, This is to Certify That the Claim of D. W. O'Connor against the State of Nevada, and Payable by Warrant upon the Appropriation for State Indigent Insane. For the sum of [$7.82], was duly allowed by the State Board of Examiners on the 4th day of December 1882, and is not on file in this office: That said Appropriation is exhausted, And the said Claim awaits action by the Legislature that convenes on the first Monday of January 1883; and that as soon as the Legislature provides for the payment of the same, a Warrant will be issued and delivered to said claimant or his assignee.
