State Controller's pay warrant printed on beige paper. Dated December 2, 1898. 10" x 5 1/4." Embossed Nevada state seal in center of document. A black and white decorative border and a couple images of a dog and building are on the warrant. Paper, handwriting, and printed text and images are all very clean and intact. The warrant says the following: "No. 1747, Controller's Office, State of Nevada, Carson City, Dec 2, 1898. The State Treasurer will pay out of the Orphans' Home Fund, To the order of John Porterfield [$8.36]. Appropriation for E[...] at O. H. Kind of service, Labor. Liability accrued, Nov 30 1898. [Signed] C. A. LaGrave, State Controller." In 1869, the State of Nevada approved of the construction of a State Orphans' Home in Carson City. The Orphans' Home was open to orphans and children in need. The orphanage operated all the way until 1992 due to state budgetary reasons.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
