Original stereocard with two black-and-white stereoscopic photographs tipped in on light beige board. The photos show a view from across the Thames looking at Windsor Castle. Several boats are shown on the river with many at shore on the foreground. 7" x 3 1/2." Stereocard is very clean and intact except for light surface wear, slight darkening, several faint smudges, and slight wear to edges and corners. A Very Good copy. Title and copyright information ("Copyright 1896 by Strohmeyer & Wyman") printed in bottom margin below right photo. Title also printed in six different languages on back. Printed in left margin: "Strohmeyer & Wyman, Publishers, New York, N.Y." Printed in right margin: "Sold only by Underwood & Underwood, New York, London, Toronto-Canada, Otaowa-Kansas." The publisher of this stereocard was Strohmeyer & Wyman. The distributor of this stereocard was Underwood & Underwood. Strohmeyer & Wyman was a stereoview publishing company founded by Henry A. Strohmeyer (1858-1943) and Nehemiah Wyman (1861-1934). Strohmeyer took most of the photographs for the company although Wyman is credited for taking some of the firm's earlier photographs of Philadelphia. In 1901, Underwood & Underwood, another stereoview and photography company, acquired Strohmeyer & Wyman's catalog of photographs when it bought out the latter. Strohmeyer & Wyman would remain a publisher, but Underwood & Underwood was in charge of distributing its stereoviews. Underwood & Underwood was a leading producer and distributor of stereoviews in its time and was founded in 1881 by brothers Elmer Underwood (1859-1947) and Bert Elias Underwood (1862-1943).
