Original black-and-white portrait photograph of Ruth Taylor wearing 1920s attire. Photo has sepia tones. Pencil inscription by Taylor in lower-right corner of the image. No date, circa 1928. 11" x 14." Photo is virtually pristine and intact except for minuscule surface wear and a small pencil mark in the upper-right margin. Ruth Taylor (1905-1984) was an American actress. Her son was Buck Henry (1930-2020), who went on to become an actor, screenwriter, and director. Inscribed by Ruth Taylor to Claire. The inscription reads, "To Claire--The background is very lovely--and why not!!!!! Best of everything to you--Ruth Taylor." This photograph is a costume still from the silent film comedy, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1928). Taylor is shown in costume as her character of Lorelei Lee, a flapper, and is seated in front of a background of paper lanterns. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1928) was adapted from Anita Loos's satirical novel of the same name, which was published just years earlier in 1925. Loos actually co-wrote the 1928 film adaptation and specifically chose Taylor for the role, noting her "remarkable resemble to Ralph Barton's illustrations in the book."
