Page count varies for each item. Items are clean and intact except for a few fold lines and wrinkles, light age toning, slight wear to extremities, and the small occasional mark. Each item and the entire collection are Very Good. Collection of five original documents relating to the appellate case, "The People of the State of California vs. Fred Wademan," in which Wademan appealed his conviction and prison sentence for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl, Augusta Schwall, in Woodland, California. The judge overseeing the appellate case was Frank M. Angellotti. Attorneys for Wademan were Theodore A. Bell, Charles W. Thomas, and R. B. McMillan. Attorneys for the People of California were U. S. Webb and J. Charles Jones. Deputy Clerk was John T. Stafford. Wademan was originally convicted in the Superior Court of Yolo County. Appellant's Petition for a Hearing by the Supreme Court," beige paper wrappers, fifty-four pages (twenty-one pages and thirty-four-page Appendix). Collection of four original documents relating to an appellate court case involving defendant B. F. Woodson ("Criminal No. 340"), convicted of cohabitation and adultery. The documents come in the form of a book, bound wrappers, and two typescripts. Some of the documents have brief handwritten inscriptions. Two items are dated 1915 and 1916; the rest of the items are undated, circa 1914-1916. Measurements vary between about 7" x 10" and 8 1/4" x 12." Items are clean and intact except for a few fold lines, light age toning, slight wear to extremities, and the small occasional mark. No. 1 (see below) has offsetting on back cover. No. 3 (see below) has several chips and closed tears along edges not affecting text. Each item and the entire collection are Very Good. Collection of four original documents relating to the appellate case, "The People of the State of California vs. B. F. Woodson," in which Woodson appealed his conviction and two-year prison sentence for the "crime of cohabitation and adultery with Evelyn May Becktel, a married person," and denial of motion for a new trial. Attorneys for Woodson were W. H. Briggs and A. H. Carpenter. Attorneys for the People of California were U. S. Webb and J. Charles Jones. The following is a summary of the items in the collection. 1) "Crim. Transcript of Woodson's 1915 appellate trial which includes, among other information, the court minutes, verdict, and Certificate on Judgment Roll. 3) "In the District Court of Appeal of the State of California, in and for theThird Appellate District. The People of the State of California, Plaintiff and Respondent, vs. B. F. Woodson, Defendant and Appellant. Respondent's Brief. Statement of the Case," carbon (?) typescript, undated, twelve pages.
