Gattrell who in a mere 10 pages while enroute to the Invasion of Luzon talks about life onboard an unknown ship, sub and kamikaze attacks, brutality of war, life onboard, and some light hearted stories. Dated from January 1st 1945 to January 9th making for 10 pages of entries and one letter back home that may never have been mailed he begins the service issued Sailors Handbook 'En Route' dateline Aitabe New Guinea. Here are some snippets: "Bad news! Jap bomber appeared on horizon - snooping. Made a clean get a way. How the hell did he get through our radar detection? Guess we can look for trouble ahead." "More nosy Japs this morning. We had all hands at battle stations for the first time this trip. No action. Japs got an eye full and fled.
