On offer is a super mid 19th Century manuscript relic of the noted British Army detachment the Royal Wiltshire Militia being a 150 page 1859 muster and payroll handwritten by Lieutenant Thomas Edward Pinkett which is chock full of data regarding the financial machinations of the noted regiment but also some diary entries relating to skirmishing, exercises, musketry training, records of letters sent and received plus: a number of double page monthly sheets are headed "Daily Messing A/c of the Detachment Royal Wilts Militia" containing Regimental No., Rank, Name, etc. Other pages record payslips for each soldier with name, No. and Rank together with entries and amounts such as: Daily payments of 1 shilling per day; Beer Money of 1 penny per day; Bounty Payments; Haircuts; Sheet Washing; Laundry; Barrack Damages; Good Shooting payments; Daily messing; Hospital Charges; Marching Money etc. Nice and clean inside with some cover wear and spine covering wear, overall G.
