Text and handwriting in German. Collection of original letters and ephemera relating to Wilhelma-Restaurant and Onkel Toms Hutte in Stuttgart, Germany and the restaurants' owners, Thomas and Hermann Rommel. Each of the letters is handwritten on paper. The ephemera consist of printed advertisements for Onkel Toms Hutte, another restaurant in Stuttgart, and envelopes addressed to Anton Rommel in Tacoma, Washington. Measurements of items range between about 3 1/4" x 4" and 8 3/4" x 10 3/4." 1920-1938. Each of the letters and ephemera, with the exception of No. 4 (listed below), are clean and intact overall except for age toning, the occasional small mark or stain, moderate wrinkling, fold lines, tiny splits, and a few small closed tears. No. 4 is a letter which is very fragile and has severe wrinkling, age toning, closed tears, and some tape repair. With the exception of No. 4 which is Good, the rest of the items in this collection and the collection as a whole are Very Good. The items in this collection relate to the restaurants, Wilhelma-Restaurant and Onkel Toms Hutte, in Stuttgart, Germany and their owners, brothers Thomas and Hermann Rommel. At least some of the letters are addressed to Thomas and Hermann's brother, Anton Rommel, who lives in Tacoma. Two letters are written on "Wilhelma-Restaurant" and "Wilhelma-Theater-Restaurant" stationery. On the "Wilhelma-Restaurant" stationery, Thomas is named as the restaurant's proprietor ("Inhaber" in German). On the "Wilhelma-Theater-Restaurant" stationery, Thomas is named as the proprietor. Thomas was also involved with other restaurants in Stuttgart at the time including Charlottenkaffee, Restaurant Friedrichsbau, and Onkel Toms Hutte. Three letters are written by Hermann, one letter is written by Thomas, and the other two are written by possible family members. The following is a summary of the letters and ephemera in the collection, numbered 1-8, with information such as the author date, location, and page count. 1) Autograph letter signed (ALS), signed, "[--?] Haag," 1920, Cannstatt (oldest borough in Stuttgart), four pages: "Wilhelma-Restaurant" handwritten under signature. 2) ALS, signed, "Hermann," 1920. Stuttgart, two pages. 3) ALS, signed, "Josef," 1922, Stuttgart-Cannstatt, two pages, on Wilhelma-Restaurant stationery. 4) ALS, signed, "Hermann," 1922, Stuttgart, four pages, very fragile with tape repair and much wrinkling. 5) ALS, signed, "Hermann," 1936, two pages, on "Wilhelma-Theater-Restaurant" stationery. 6) ALS, signed, "Thomas," 1938, Stuttgart, one page, comes with original envelope addressed to Anton. 7) Two ephemera relating to Onkel Toms Hutte, namely, an ad measuring 4" x 3" and a printed company header (possibly clipped), c. 1931. 8) Three envelopes addressed to Anton in Tacoma, c. 1930s..
