In these masterly ghost stories James Turner explores the possibility of an after-life which turns out to be far from oblivion. Many are terrifying,as the shadows of past events reach out to engulf and destroy the present; in 'Naked we came into the World' a middle-aged man re-enters with horrifying results in the house in which he was born; and in 'Love Me,Love my Car' an accident is re-enacted to terrify the new owners of a second-hand car.Robert Williams, factory foreman, becomes caught up in the Civil War battles he took part in three hundred years before.                                          But the after-world of James Turner is not all terrifying. Some events from the past produce on their recurrance happy emotions as strong in their different way as terror. But though these may 'give delight and not hurt',the reader is all the time aware of the inexplicable, and of the fear of the unknown. This edition is now out-of-print as the publisher ceased trading in the mid 1980's.   William Kimber himself, worked for Hutchinson for about 17 years before founding "William Kimber & Co" in 1950.It specialized in aviation, war memoirs, autobiographies and motor-racing titles until 1973 when "Haunted Cornwall" took off and the Ghost Stories became another specialty.William Kimber was purchased by Thorsons in 1988 and therefore ceased publishing under that name.Thorsons was purchased by William Collins in 1989.William Collins became wholly owned by News Corporation in 1990,and was then incorporated into HarperCollins Publishers. The name of William Kimber has not been used for publishing since that, making all previously published titles by them,out-of-print,under that name.   Please contact seller, because of the weight/ value of this item, for correct, insured shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!
