One small portrait illustration of the author printed on front. Leaflet is very clean and intact except for light age toning. A Fine copy. This is a promotional leaflet advertising Guide to Life and Literature of the Southwest (1943) by J. Frank Dobie. J. Frank Dobie (1888-1964) was an American author, folklorist, newspaper columnist, and professor. Dobie is perhaps best-known for his depictions in literature of Texan ranch life and Southwestern culture. Dobie was from a ranching family and was a key figure in saving the Texas Longhorn cattle breed from extinction. Although he was sometimes at political odds with the University of Texas at Austin, Dobie was long associated with the university and even taught there for some time. After Dobie's passing, his Marble Falls ranch he called Paisano was given to the University of Texas by his friends. Dobie's friends had hoped his ranch could be preserved and act as a writer's retreat. The University followed through with the vision of Dobie's friends, and to this day, Paisano is both a memorial to Dobie and a writer's retreat.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: No Binding
