Copyright 1899. 22 pages with 3 black and white photographs. This story tells of the construction of and the story behind the Meeting House and who was involved. "A Sermon. The Preaching and Preachers of the Gospel of Christ, Delivered before the Springfield, Illinois, Baptist Association, Sept. 2, 1903" by Rev. Edwin Sawyer Walker A.M. 13 pages. This recounts how Rev. Walker became a preacher. "A Sermon in Course, Upon The Thomas Strawbridge Foundation, Delivered by Rev. Edwin Sawyer Walker, A.M. in the Central Baptist Church, Springfield Illinois on Sunday, October 11th, 1908." Mr. Strawbridge (1798-1880) left a large amount of money to have a foundation created to help the needy, and "The Lincoln Library: Its Genesis and Development, The Earliest public expression of the need of a Public Library Building in Springfield was voiced in a sermon, delivered upon the Thomas Strawbridge Foundation, by Rev. Edwin Sawyer Walker A.M. in the Central Baptist Church, on Sunday, October 9th, 1898" 31 pages, 1 black and white photograph. This recounts the pressing needs of a library for Springfield. It also tells how the Lincoln Library got its name. This story also has several letters from Rev. Walker to Andrew Carnegie. Rev. Walker became Chairman of the Committee and the Chairman of the Library Site Committee. All seven works are bound together, all privately printed in small editions. A previous owner wrote notes on the side of page 28 which reads, "Edwin Sawyer Walker died at Springfield, Aug. 15, 1912 at 8 p.m." Pages are very clean and complete. Binding is tight.. Book.
