Lewis "Lew" Wallace (1827-1905) was an American author, politician, diplomat, governor, and Union general during the Civil War. Wallace wrote several novels and biographies, and among them, Ben-Hur is likely the most famous. The Prince of India is a historical fiction about the fall of Byzantine Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire in 1453. These volumes are divided into four "Books" or sections. Volume I contains Books I-III and part of Book IV. Book I is titled, "The Earth and the Sea Are Always Giving Up Their Secrets." Book II is "The Prince of India." Book III is "The Princess Irene."
