The first American edition of the complete works, a reprint of the English 1820 edition, with the "Ecclesiastical Sonnets" of 1822 added. Four 12mo. volumes, 17.5 x 10.7 cm. V. I, p. [iii]-cxv, [1], [3]-319, [1]; v. II, p. [iii]-viii, [3]-368; v. III, p. [iii]-xii, [3]-384; v. IV, p. [4], [v]-xix-20-382 pp. Volumes 1-3 have the colophon "University Press,--Cambridge. Hilliard and Metcalf, Printers." Contemporary full leather bindings: speckled sides, with gilt decoration and two black morocco labels on spines. The second label, located near the foot of the spine, is monogrammed E. M. D. Spines have darkened a bit, while sides are slightly edgeworn and occasionally rubbed. Text is clean and nicely printed.
