circa.1890. Stereograph on tan board (3 1/2 x 7 inch) with title across the bottom of the card, description on the backside. Image looking toward the entrance at an angle. Built by Henry B. Plant at a cost of two and a half million dollars during 1888-1891, it covers a total of six acres. Built in the 'Moorish Revival' style it was among the first major buildings built using steel reinforced poured concrete in the United States. It was the first structure to have an elevator, electric lights, and telephone in Florida. The large structure sat in the middle of a 150 acre park which had 21 structures, a golf course, racetrack, and casino. Closed in 1930 it was transformed into the University of Tampa in 1933 which is still there now. Tours of the hotel are available to the general public. Fine clean copy.. Book.
