Steel Engraving Portrait. "Samuel Francis Du Pont"

engraving, circa1900 taken from a painting (3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch) of Samuel Francis Du Pont (1803-1865) from New Jersey in naval uniform. Joined the Navy in 1821, involved as a commander in the Mexican-American war commanding ships on the West Coast including the 'Cyane'. During the Civil War he was involved in the attack on Port Royal, S.C. which he lead. Retired in 1863.. Illustr.: Engraved By E.G. Williams. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
