Original manuscript, 32 pages, written on loose sheets of lined exercise book paper, 300x195 mm, enclosed in a double sheet of squared exercise book paper. Campbell has written on the upper cover, 'This is the only extant Ms of my Satire The Wayzgoose, Roy Campbell'. On the back is written, again in his hand, 'La Joyeuse Lance, Martigues, B.A.R'. La Joyeuse Lance was the name of the water jousting team which Campbell joined in Martigues in 1929, ('Campbell, with his massive build and great strength, proved very good at this dangerous and exacting sport', Roy Campbell, A Critical Biography by Peter Alexander, p. 102, 1982). The sheets of the manuscript are loose & although this appears to be a fair copy there are a number of ink blotches. There are also some minor corrections to the text. The text follows the printed version closely with the 'remarks' at the bottom of the pages. All the pages are numbered with the exception of p. 25 which is written in a different colour ink & is on squared paper & the last page (32) - this page is signed by Campbell at the bottom. Preserved in a marbled paper folder which is worn along the edges

The printed version was first published in London by Jonathan Cape in 1928 (Parsons A2)
