Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners – one tiny closed tear to front, lower corner tip - no other major nicks, tears or splits present, other than minimal bumping with reciprocal creases at heaD of spine. The majority of edge creasing with its ubiquitous curl,is to top edges of dw/dj,rear panel of dw/dj with minimal superficial scoring but without penetration to board beneath, front panel scoring/indent-free.Top egdes bright and clean without foxing/spotting,fore-edges also bright and clean with very minimal, faint and barely discernible spots; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - text body virtually pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips, appears unread, other than my own collation.Publisher's bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,original plain blue-green speckled cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt lettered spine/backstrip,and clean plain white endpapers with minimal off-setting from front, inner flap of dw/dj to front free endpaper, rear reverse of rear free endpaper minimally foxed, rear pastedown immaculate. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and particularly internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its near 60-year-old age.It is only the minimal, minor exterior faults described that prevents a slightly higher overall grading.Despite them,it really is still an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and minimal detracting faults anda fitting addition to the Hammond Innes collection. Geoffrey Bailey is a man in search of a new job - and a new life. Then Strode & Company, City shipowners, make him a curious offer: find Peter Strode, the family black sheep, and make sure he returns to the fold. Bailey's acceptance of this assignment plunges him into a world where the smiling face of the Maldive Islands masks unseen terrors. But the lethal dangers of the coral reefs and the remote islands are pale in comparison with the civilized jungle of high financial warfare. And the directors of Strode & Company have too much to lose, and too few scruples, to care about one man’s life - or his death.
