Steel Engraving Portrait. "Allan McLane"
Engraving circa 1900s (4 x 5 inch) of Allan McLane (1822-1891) from Maryland in civilian clothing. He joined the Navy in 1842 as a midshipman. Was on the "Brandywine in its cruise around the world (1843-45), Served on the Rio Grande landing under Aulick and later at Vera Cruz under General Taylor. Attended the Naval Academy after the war, but resigned his commission to go to work for the Pacific Mail Steamship Company. He spent 20 years with the company commanding ships on the Panama run of the west coast. Became its president in 1860, until 1870 when he retired.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
