Imprint: Paris, France, Jean-Francois Daumont

A beautiful, original hand-colored engraving that shows the Grand Bassin Rond in the Tuileries Garden in Paris, France. People in formal attire are shown walking around the circular pond in a tree-lined plaza at the end of the Grande Allee. In 1564, the Tuileries Garden was built under the orders of Catherine de' Medici as the official garden of the Tuileries Palace. It opened to the public in 1667 and became a public park after the French Revolution. No date, circa 1760. Paper measures 18" x 11 1/4"; printed area measures 16" x 10 1/4."
